Quick Answer
Brandon patients see Dr. Rachel McKenna or Dr. Alison Larson, D.O. at Haven Psychiatry & Wellness on Pinellas Bayway South, reached from Brandon via the Selmon Expressway and Gandy Bridge. Many East Hillsborough patients come in person; the initial evaluation and medication management are also available by secure telehealth from anywhere in Florida for those who prefer it. Both physicians are double board-certified in adult and child & adolescent psychiatry.
Brandon Patients
Why Brandon Comes to Haven
Brandon grew faster than its psychiatric bench. East Hillsborough has a deep field of therapists and counseling groups along Bloomingdale Avenue and Brandon Boulevard, but physicians who evaluate, diagnose, prescribe, and can actually take a new patient this month are scarce, and many Brandon and Valrico patients have been told to try Tampa and quoted a wait measured in months.
A meaningful share of Haven's patients already make the Selmon-to-Gandy drive from Brandon, Valrico, and Riverview, and most say the same thing: they wanted to sit across from the physician, at least at the start. The evaluation is unhurried, the plan is explained in the room, and the office is a medical practice rather than a clinic in a strip center. For patients who would rather not cross two bridges for every visit, the same evaluation and medication follow-ups are available by secure video, with prescriptions sent to your Brandon pharmacy — you choose visit by visit.
For Brandon households the same practice covers the whole family: Dr. Rachel McKenna and Dr. Alison Larson, D.O. are both double board-certified in adult and child & adolescent psychiatry, so a parent in Valrico and a teenager at Bloomingdale or Newsome can see the same physician team rather than splitting across two offices on opposite sides of Hillsborough County.
Haven's psychiatric team provides evaluation, diagnosis, and medication management for ADHD, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, autism, and more, with Exomind TMS and Spravato available for treatment-resistant depression. Full detail on conditions treated and the evaluation process is on the Psychiatry page.
Who You'll See
Dr. McKenna leads Haven's psychiatric team and treats patients across the lifespan; Dr. Larson brings pediatric and adolescent expertise. You choose which physician you see, and keep that physician for follow-up care, in person or by video.

From Brandon, the Selmon Expressway (SR 618) west to Gandy Boulevard, across the Gandy Bridge, then I-275 south to exit 17, 54th Avenue South / Pinellas Bayway (SR 682); west on the Bayway and south on SR 679 onto Tierra Verde. From Riverview or FishHawk, I-75 north to the Selmon is usually the quickest way onto that route.
A cross-bay drive; Selmon and Gandy Bridge traffic sets the time, so Brandon patients tend to book the first slot of the morning or the last of the afternoon.

What's Different
Worth the Drive from Brandon
In person or by video — your choice
Brandon patients can sit across from Dr. McKenna or Dr. Larson at the office, or do the same full diagnostic evaluation over secure video. Either way it is a physician visit, not chatbot triage or a form that generates a prescription.
A real office across the bay
Many Brandon patients come in for every visit and prefer it. Others come for the evaluation and keep routine medication checks on video. Both are normal here.
Two double board-certified physicians
Both of Haven's psychiatrists hold adult and child & adolescent certification, so children, teens, and parents from Brandon, Valrico, and Riverview are treated by the same practice.

Common Questions
Psychiatry in Brandon — FAQ
Do I have to drive from Brandon to St. Petersburg for the first appointment?
No, but many Brandon patients choose to. The initial evaluation is available in person at the office on Pinellas Bayway South or by secure telehealth from anywhere in Florida; follow-up medication management works the same way. Your physician will tell you if a particular visit should be in person.
Which route is fastest from Brandon when I do come in?
The Selmon Expressway west to Gandy Boulevard, over the Gandy Bridge, then I-275 south to exit 17 (Pinellas Bayway). Booking the first or last slot of the day avoids the worst Selmon and Gandy traffic.
Do you see children and teens from Brandon and Valrico?
Yes. Both Dr. McKenna and Dr. Larson are board-certified in child and adolescent psychiatry as well as adult psychiatry. Pediatric telehealth visits include a parent, and in-person visits are available when a physician recommends one.
Will my prescriptions go to a pharmacy in Brandon?
Yes. Prescriptions are sent electronically to the pharmacy you choose, so a video visit does not mean driving to Pinellas to pick up medication.
