Quick Answer
Sarasota patients see Dr. Rachel McKenna or Dr. Alison Larson, D.O. at Haven Psychiatry & Wellness on Pinellas Bayway South, exit 17 off I-275 just north of the Sunshine Skyway. Many Sarasota County patients come in person; the initial evaluation and medication management are also available by secure telehealth from anywhere in Florida for those who prefer it. Both physicians are double board-certified in adult and child & adolescent psychiatry.
Sarasota Patients
Why Sarasota Comes to Haven
Sarasota has a strong medical reputation and still has a psychiatry problem: a small number of physicians, many of them concierge or cash-only with closed panels, and a large population — retirees, seasonal residents, and the young families now filling Lakewood Ranch and Palmer Ranch — competing for them. Sarasota patients typically reach Haven after a primary care doctor or therapist said 'you need a psychiatrist' and the local wait was months.
Sarasota patients are among Haven's most frequent in-person visitors, and the route is the reason: I-75 to the Skyway, then our exit, with no St. Petersburg traffic in between. The evaluation is a full diagnostic visit with Dr. McKenna or Dr. Larson, the plan is explained in the room, and many Sarasota patients pair the trip with a Fort De Soto or St. Pete Beach afternoon. For those who prefer it, the same evaluation and medication follow-ups are available by secure video with prescriptions sent to a Sarasota pharmacy — you choose visit by visit.
Sarasota's seasonal rhythm suits this model. A patient who spends part of the year on Longboat Key or in Venice and part elsewhere can keep the same physician by video whenever they are in Florida, rather than restarting with a new practice each season. And because both Haven psychiatrists are double board-certified in adult and child & adolescent psychiatry, a Lakewood Ranch family's teenager and parent can be treated by the same practice.
Haven's psychiatric team provides evaluation, diagnosis, and medication management for ADHD, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, autism, and more, with Exomind TMS and Spravato available for treatment-resistant depression. Full detail on conditions treated and the evaluation process is on the Psychiatry page.
Who You'll See
Dr. McKenna leads Haven's psychiatric team and treats patients across the lifespan; Dr. Larson brings pediatric and adolescent expertise. You choose which physician you see, and keep that physician for follow-up care, in person or by video.

What's Different
Worth the Drive from Sarasota
In person or by video — your choice
Sarasota patients can sit across from Dr. McKenna or Dr. Larson at the office, or do the same full diagnostic evaluation over secure video. Either way it is a physician visit, not chatbot triage or a form that generates a prescription.
Continuity for seasonal residents
See your physician in person while you are in Sarasota, and keep the same physician by video from anywhere else in Florida — no restarting with a new practice each season.
Two double board-certified physicians
Both Haven psychiatrists hold adult and child & adolescent certification, so children, teens, parents, and retirees from Sarasota County are seen by one practice.

Common Questions
Psychiatry in Sarasota — FAQ
Do I have to drive from Sarasota to St. Petersburg for the first appointment?
No, but many Sarasota patients choose to. The initial evaluation is available in person at the office on Pinellas Bayway South or by secure telehealth from anywhere in Florida; follow-up medication management works the same way. Your physician will tell you if a particular visit should be in person.
How long is the drive from Sarasota when I do come in?
I-75 north to I-275, across the Sunshine Skyway (toll), then exit 17 (Pinellas Bayway); the office is a few minutes west on the Bayway. Travel time depends on I-75; the Skyway drops you at our exit before any city traffic.
Do you see children and teens from Sarasota and Lakewood Ranch?
Yes. Both Dr. McKenna and Dr. Larson are board-certified in child and adolescent psychiatry as well as adult psychiatry. Pediatric telehealth visits include a parent.
I split the year between Sarasota and another state. Can I keep my Haven psychiatrist?
Telehealth visits are available whenever you are physically located in a state where your treating physician is licensed; Florida is covered for both physicians. Ask the office about your specific states when you book.
